John Cow is an IDIOT

WHAT? A PR3 Blogger with a handful of RSS subscribers and an Alexa Ranking over 200,000 calling John Cow an idiot? Yes, you heard right!

Would you like to read more? I bet you would!

John Cow wrote about how he'd done his last drop on the EntreCard network. Further more he went on to bash a very good website for being successful within the EntreCard network.

He asked "So why on earth would someone waste over 400 credits to get featured on a blog that has 21 RSS subscribers?" What a fool! Currently 200 credits are worth $1US. Lets say that the JohnChow EntreCard widget (below the scroll) is worth $8.33 a day, 400Credits / $2 for a day on another blog that's above the scroll and going to generate probably the same or more click through's strikes me as really good value. Further more, those visitors will drop their cards and compensate for the cost of the advertising.

Advertising that pays for itself is good!

THEN he has the gall to accept a post to advise people to promote themselves using paid advertising? You have to earn money, you have to earn EntreCard credits, so what's the difference? The act of earning credits promotes your site! The act of earning money makes someone else rich.

He rubbishes EntreCard for creating junk traffic. Traffic is traffic, it's up to the blogger to create content that snares the ChainDropper and turns them into a regular reader. Don't blame the traffic, blame yourself!

Personally I have become a regular reader of sites that I started out visiting as a ChainDropper. Also I have found that many people who regularly visit my blogs and leave comments started off as ChainDroppers. And so what if someone never becomes a regular reader, only a ChainDropper, that's fine by me as I can receive credits from their drop to buy advertising elsewhere.

I agree with the idea of promoting your blog to increase readership. On my Jokes Blog I conducted an experiment of doing a blitz of advertising, now that site is No1 in the humor field and continues to remain so because the content is good to entice people to visit daily and leave their cards when they visit. (jokes.jdonuts.com updated daily, you'll wet your pants laughing!)

In short, if you are a B,C,D grade blogger EntreCard is good. If you are an A grade blogger with no clue about the world of smaller blogs, then follow the likes of John Cow and find a way to fit your head up your rectal passage.

It's easier for Johncow to attack the entrecard system than it is for him to attack his readers for not dropping. Why did john cow readers stop dropping their card on him? Maybe there's no obvious financial incentive, no prize involved, or maybe they all subscribe in readers and don't visit the site? It doesn't matter, people are free to do whatever they want to generate traffic. Entrecard is one tool of many. Use it if it does the job for you.

Contamination 16 January 2008 01:55

It's easy to blame the system indeed!

Why did they stop? For one thing his EC widget was below the scroll. I can understand as he could sell that spot for a lot more, but then he's just throwing away that extra traffic.

People are free to do as they please, its up to the blogger to entice them to stay.

John Cow 16 January 2008 03:59

Why would we attack readers for not dropping? We've got a problem with the way the system works, not with the users. But it looks like the users are making a problem out of it with us.

We dropped a widget from our blog, get over it.

As far as calling John Cow an idiot...when did we ever call you an idiot?

MarketingDeviant 16 January 2008 04:12

Contamination made that title just to grab the viewer's attention =D. Catchy headline always works (you make catchy offensive headlines too right?)! Entrecard is like a godsend for small bloggers and you can use the website to your advantage.

Jay a.k.a. 'Dat' 16 January 2008 04:53

I mean, I wouldn't say he's an idiot, we're all entitled to our own opinions, right? Just a lot of bigger bloggers feel as though they don't need these types of communities because they have their followers, but I feel you'll just end up by yourself at the end.

Did that make any sense? Lol!

"We dropped a widget from our blog, get over it."

@johncow You dropped 2100 (was 1700 a week ago) active bloggers from your readership along with the potential to get many more as Entrecard becomes more and more popular. We are not widgets. We are bloggers.

Jamaipanese 16 January 2008 06:02

another A list blogger full of them self.

if they can't find their own rectal passage they can borrow mine

Woobie 16 January 2008 07:37

Maybe he needs the space for selling for cash not credits. After all, he's not getting paid to keep it. I couldn't understand why he'd feel like this is all beneath him when he might have started somewhere too...

I actually thought he could appreciate the idea at least. After all, wouldn't a person who capitalized on his name-hacking of a famous blog like John Chow find something like Entrecard innovative at the very least.

J cow's "get over it" comment always makes me smile. So Diva-ish!!!

Gordon Swaby 16 January 2008 07:46

But how are you calling him an idiot, and yet still linking to him in your sidebar

Deimos Tel`Arin 16 January 2008 08:29

@jdonuts:
[Traffic is traffic, it's up to the blogger to create content that snares the ChainDropper and turns them into a regular reader.]
Quoted for truth, mate.

@turnip:
I concur.

@contamination:
I don't visit EntreSites with their widgets way below the fold unless I am EntreSurfing!

@John Cow:
Well, it is an attractive title for an article. :)

"Get over it"? :p
Cheer up, mate. :D

@marketingdeviant:
I totally agree, mate.
Its a good catchy title!
See? Even John Cow came and posted!

@jay:
Its a catchy title! Good one too!

@seo rob:
Aye, his loss, not ours. :)

@jamaipanese:
O_O

@woobie:
Well, I am not quite impressed by "copycat" folks. -_-

@gordon:
That's John Chow, not John Cow. Two totally different mofos. :)

Sam Freedom 16 January 2008 09:19

Let's see...

It's a fine article, indeed, as it stokes the flames of conversation. There is one thing missing, though, and that would be a mention of me since I have vociferously defended Entrecard against all the nay-sayers since I first got here.

But that's ok, someone else caught the irony that you had once linked to me but took it down after the GS debacle but you still keep Cow's up there.

Lots of irony... if you want your posts to hit harder, link to other people who support your view.

As for John Cow, he doesn't realize that in failing to make the distinction that Entrecard might not be good for people at whatever HIS level of the game is, he inadvertantly insulted a lot of people who are having a grand time flailing around like 3,000 old ladies at a costume jewelry flea market meant to hold only 300.

Keep at it, though, J... let's see who you go after next...

Sam

@JohnCow, Thanks for stopping by. Why attack you? You wrote an article on your blog that needed correcting. As for the title? Erm, what do you call someone who does something very foolish, nay idiotic and then posts it for the world to see? Hmm...

@MarketingDeviant, I couldn't have said it better myself. It brought readers & comments, maybe even a few more regular readers of my blogs?

@Jay, I understand. There's things for big bloggers and things for small bloggers. Its clear that Cow is too big for the likes of us.

@SeoRob, thanks for calling Cow out. I appreciate it.

@Jamaipanese, this is the internet I'm sure there's someone out there ready to film the entire act!

@Woobie, thanks for the reference of Cow to John Chow.

@Gordon, please look closely. Cow chose his name to mislead. I link to the real JC, not those other Cows.

@Demios, jDonuts is the site title, Contamination is the man. :-)
Thanks for agreeing with me about traffic and also I love sites with widgets above the fold. Great to click on and buy advertising from.

@Sam, please follow my advice for Gordon. Also you are beginning to warm in my heart, soon enough your link will be back there... Soon..

br3adman 16 January 2008 12:36

Let Him go cow tipping and keep buying his traffic.

Lumacafi 16 January 2008 15:38

This catchy title made me stop my early morning chaindrop round and read. Not only read but read it all and read the comments.
I even went as far as to add a comment my self.

And somehow this all seems quite logical to me.

Contamination 16 January 2008 16:03

@br3adman, sounds like fun!

@lumacafi, I'm happy to know that I'm on your chain dropping list! Thanks.

See Cow? that's how you turn chain droppers into readers, have interesting content! No gimmiks on the jDonuts network!

Woobie 16 January 2008 17:16

There you go! I had so much fun reading that i almost forgot to drop my card!

Good thing Jdonuts mentioned the "drop" word on that last comment.

Thomas 16 January 2008 21:26

My two cents is this: aside from this blog, I had not heard of any of the other blogs mentioned here before EntreCard. In the past few months my blogging universe has opened up, and now the names that are floating around here are familiar to me. Take that for what it's worth, but good or bad, that one system can do this is pretty amazing.

(My deleted comment was about the ads that have since come back.)

The BenSpark 16 January 2008 22:47

I've been chaindropping your blogs for a while now and I do stop and read the articles however this is my first comment. You make some really good points. I'll be back by daily.

Contamination 16 January 2008 22:53

@Woobie, that would have been unforgivable! :-)

@Thomas, that's very true. I have an extra 10 or so blogs now that I read every day. Also of the ones I used to read from before I have about 10 that are now with EC, so it's more rewarding to do things I used to do already. (Project Wonderful was down for a while, that was causing the problems.)

@Benspark, thanks. While I prefer people to read & drop I won't stop those who just drop & run. Thankyou for becoming one of my preferred readers! :-)

Techie Guy 17 January 2008 01:33

First time I visited your blog, and I think I'll check it out more.

As for John Cow dropping EC, it's his decision in the end.

Many bloggers don't link EC because of the "bad traffic", as they are used to much more.

For me, I'm new to blogging, so any traffic I can get is "good traffic". I don't care what other bloggers are doing, only what I am doing.

Contamination 17 January 2008 01:36

Hi Techie Guy, thanks for visiting.

Sure, it's his blog and he can do what he likes. But if he rubbishes a good traffic / networking building system & rubbishes a blog I like then he's going to cop some flak!

Traffic = Traffic, no more or less. It's how you convert traffic into readers that's important.

Moolahking 18 January 2008 05:46

John Chow or John Cow, both SUCKS for me..!!

Entrecard is a way to gain more traffics, but spend it wisely.
I've just posted about Entrecard, mate!

I don't believe to spend my EC credits on JC blogs. I believe that small bloggers can creates more traffics, so why bother to spend on him..??

I don't like JC. Whether he's good or not. I prefer small bloggers. It's easy to make connections / friends. Not like JC that i felt such a boring guy.

This is my first entry on your blog. I should have come before on this post..Damn i missed it..!!
